ALLENTOWN “Kentucky” Rifle Stock. Based on an original rifle made by Andrew Verner of Bucks Co., Pennsylvania (probably Revolutionary War era). The butt plate is rather flat; the stock somewhat thick with a wrist wider than high. The comb is straight and the underside of the butt stock slightly curved. Verner is credited by some authorities with beginning the Roman-nose profile. The original was carved, but has few inlays and a side opening patch box. Overall length 59", maximum pull 15"; drop 3-3/4". Barrel channel is 42" long; 3/8" ramrod groove. Lock mortice is 6-1/2" wide by 1-1/4" high; butt is 5-1/4" x 1/-3/4".
